Isca Bear arrives at Abertillery

Isca Bear has arrived at theRotary Club of Abertillery and Blaina.

They have adopted him and named him Abba Isca.

He is looking forward to many visits to other clubs and is being cared for by The President Steve Harford and mainly by Sharon.

Mike Dingley Jones, President of The Rotary Club of Carmarthen visited Kenya in Spring 2010.
He presented to Dan Munyori (Past President of The Rotary Club of Dioni Mombasa Coast Kenya) a family model of LifeStraw as well as personal models.
Dan Munyori built a village library in 2008 in memory of his mother Melenia near Busia in the north west of Kenya.
A family model of the LifeStraw will be used in the library to filter water collected from the library roof.

Horn of Africa

In recent weeks the famine in the Horn of Africa has been the focus of our attention. Our enquiries revealed that, as other agencies were discovering, it was impossible to put in LifeStraw via Somalia. We had previously supplied LifeStraw to Kenya, and further enquiries revealed a distribution route to the stricken area. We now have managed to have delivered to northern and eastern Kenya, the famine area, sufficient LifeStraw to provide in excess of
50, 000,000 litres of safe water. (The LifeStraw does not in itself produce water, but does allow ANY water source (not salt) to be used)
As we have donated both LifeStraw models, the elderly and very young will also be provided with this essential of life.

an evening meeting at Macclesfield Rotary Club, held at the local Golf club. Again, beautiful surroundings.

A Rotarian stated that his sister had connections with Sierra Leone, and enquired if we could make donations of LifeStraw there, where she had identified a great need for the provision of safe water. The required details were explained, and we await her contact in order that we can take this request forward.

Early start at Cardiff Breakfast Rotary Club, held at Whitchurch Golf Club. Lots of assistance from Maggie Hughes, which was much appreciated. The club already has connections with Uganda, we will be using this contact to the advantage of this club and a very needy recipient in Uganda. It demonstrates yet again just how we can help each other.

We spoke on the phone to an Irish girl, Elaine Bannon, on Saturday who is in Kenya (she is in the bush near the Equator) working with the Masasai warriors.

She has received a consignment of personal LifeStraws via Brynmawr W P. One way she uses them is to demonstrate them, suggest that they can be used when they follow their cattle.

However they only get one if they promise not to carry out "Female Circumcision" on their daughters. a very unusual use of life straws. Visit their website and read about their work: www.lightofmaasai.com

LifeStraw Personal is a portable water purifier for prevention of common diarrhoeal disease. It can be carried around for easy access to safe and clean drinking water. It is just 25 cm long and 29 mm in diameter and can be hung around the neck. LifeStraw requires no electrical power or spare parts.

Just got back to hotel after an excellent and very busy day at the RDS centre. Have given many demonstrations, everybody impressed with LifeStraw.

We visited shelter box garden at Cardiff flower show designed by Trish Farr. The LifeStraw family model was on display. The garden won a silver medal.

Horrabridge Cubs fund raise for LifeStraw.org.uk in assocation with Roborough Rotary Club

Roborough Rotary Club has recently raised £1900 to purchase life saving LifeStraws, but their fundraising effects have motivated some of the local Scout Association clubs to also try to raise funds also for LifeStraws.

S.A.R.A.I.D visited Brynmawr Rotary club on Tuesday, 29th March 2001 to talk about their work. We have in past supplied LifeStraws to them to support them in their work.

S.A.R.A.I.D is a British charity dedicated to trying to save the lives of innocent victims of disaster, as well as relieving human suffering around the world regardless of color, creed, religion and political persuasion.

It is staffed entirely by volunteers and funded solely by public donations, S.A.R.A.I.D is on call 365 days a year, always ready to provide trained Search and Rescue personnel, free of charge to any country in need of assistance. S.A.R.A.I.D members are drawn from all walks of life.

However, the one common attribute shared by all our volunteers, is the desire and determination to help the innocent victims of disaster around the world.
